Ruffled fabric flowers

I'm excited to share with you this cute little project. I would bet you would have never bet that this was made from my silhouette?  When I saw the rolled flowers in Lori's shop I knew that I wanted to try them out of fabric, and they worked.  The key is to use either stiff fabric with some stabilizer under it or, use this thin fabric to cut from.  The fabric I chose was thin polyester lining.  It's used to line skirts or dresses with out adding a lot of bulk.  I came in an array of colors, and it was super cheap.  I cut the fabric 12x12 to fit on my cutting mat, then cut out the shape with my silhouette.  There were a few places that didn't cut all the way through, which I hand trimmed, which is OK because these are not suppose to be perfect.  After I cut them, I grabbed my lighter and singed the edges, making them pucker and curl.  Then I got a needle and thread and had sewed the curls into place, then attached the rhinestone button.  Then hot glued a clip and some felt to clean it up.  Now I have some cute little flowers for my girls hair.  I think they turned out darling, now only if I had the time to make about 100 more!

Hello Sunshine - LDS scripture bag

Hello everyone, today we have a break in the paper crafting to share with you a little bag I made for my daughter's birthday.  She turned 8 this last week, and from her grandpa she received a set of scriptures for church.  Since I knew these were coming, I decided to make a bag for her to put them in.  I was in my local craft store and spotted Lori Whitlock's Hello Sunshine collection in fabric from Riley Blake, and since it was to darling to pass up, I grabbed it and came home and went to work.

I pinned this pattern from Pinterest a while back, and actually made ballet bags for both of my girls with it to hold their shoes to take to class.  It was simple and perfect size I made it again for this bag. I did actually make the bottom a little more narrow than the pattern called for so it would fit her scriptures better.  Since it needed a little dressing up, I added the flower to make it a little more frilly, just like my daughter is.  Lets just say she was thrilled with it, and can't wait to take them to church with her.

For my project I wanted to keep it simple, well, because my life right now is not simple.  My office looks like this....

 
Just keeping it real....  I just moved back to Utah after spending three years in Canada.  I have been in my new house for less than a week, and today was the first day I unpacked anything in this room, well, because, the kitchen, TV's, and bedrooms have been a little bit of a priority; scrapbook, photography and sewing stuff has taken a back seat to the essentials. My computer is up and running, but anything else is still in mystery boxes scattered not only here, but all over my basement.  I am sure my family will get sick of stepping over boxes labeled crafts, so wish me luck getting organized in a timely fashion.

Luckly, in the time we waited for our house stuff to be shipped here, my sister was kind enough to let me borrow her sewing machine, so I could have something to share with you today.  I made cute easter outfits for my girls, similar to the ones I made for Halloween, but with Lori's files, I was able to make a matching shirt.

Fun, quick and cute!  I used Lori's bunny file found here, cut it out, ironed it on, and sewed around it!  The skirts were made with cute holiday fabric and cute ric rac!  The girls are excited to wear them, hopefully to a egg hunt or something fun like that!

Christmas Pajamas

So I am sure like a lot of you, you give your kids Christmas pajamas for Christmas - I know we have done it since the Christmas I got married, as well as I got them every year as a kid.  My parents would give them out on Christmas Eve, I am sure so we all looked nice for Christmas morning pictures :) Well, that would be my reasoning.  But a couple years ago, I changed the tradition so I give my kids their jammies on Dec 1st, so they look good all season long.  Mostly I have given them Christmas themed pajamas and now with them having them all season long, it just adds to the Christmas season!  So this year, I took my girls to the only fabric store in town to pick out material for their pajamas.  My two year old carried or hugged the bolt of fabric all over the store, because she "lubbed" it.  So I came home and thought, how can we make these just a little cuter - so here comes the iron on vinyl.  The snowman was an easy match, but my six year old picked out the reindeer for hers.  Two hours later, including sewing time, out came two sets of pajamas, custom made for my little girls.  Now to get the boys to do the same (I am not sure they want cute icons on theirs!)  I even added my little "Graham Cracker" labels, are they not so cute?

Girls Halloween Skirt with ruffle leggings

What do you do when your kids school doesn't allow costumes on Halloween?  You make something super cute to send your daughter in for the holiday.  And if you make one, then little sister will want one too.  So of course I had to make both girls one.  My oldest daughter has been bugging me all week to let her wear it, but she had to wait for me to take pictures, just incase a small catastrophe happened in first grade.  Just look at how happy she was to finally get to wear it, or she just wants to be a model, who knows!
